Com 101: what is communication: communication is not necessarily definable there are many components to any definition of communication, the components of communication are: process, human, shared, symbolic. Communication is a process/an action/something you do: a piece of communication is an object (i. e. a text message, we use tools for communication (i. e. smart phone, paper) An email is a piece of communication (object) that communicates (action) an idea: communication vs communications, communication is a study of the process, whereas communications looks at the individual pieces of communication model. The more overlap of fields of experience , the easier it is to communicate. The more communication between persons a and b, the bigger the overlap becomes. Human/animal communication debate: it is debated whether humans and animals can truly communicate, as we can"t understand through any lens other than human , so we can never truly be sure if we are communicating correctly.
