Two or more people who interact and interdependent. Needs/goals cause them to in uence each other in some way. Norman triplett is known for doing one of the rst social psychological experiments in the history of psychology. He did some interesting work for his masters thesis. He rst did some research on competitive cyclers across a certain number of years. He compared three different types of races, where people were racing against each other. Then he looked at the times for paced races against time (a single rider is trying to beat some record but has the bene t of having other people pace him as he is going along). The rst option is a race without the bene t of being paced. He made the observation that the average times were faster for the actual races, not just practice races.
