Document Summary

Social in uence involves the exercise of social power by a person or group to change the attitudes/behavior of others in a particular direction. We need conformity in order not to have chaos. It is interesting to look at different fads in different times in history. In the 1960s, ironing hair was a fad. In the 1970s, disco music was a fad. Also pet rocks were a fad (the inventor of pet rock made millions and millions of dollars out of this idea). In the 1980s we saw fads like breakdancing. In the 1990s we saw the fad of the fannypack, beanie babies, tamagotchi, reebok shoes. In the 2000s, fads were butter y clips for hair, crocs. Conformity is a change in behavior or belief as a result of real or imagined group pressure. A lot of times we might conform because we feel the pressure to conform (not because someone is threatening us with a gun).
