Document Summary

Continental ice sheet: an accumulation of ice that covers all or part of a continent (greenland, In the past there have been continental ice sheets that cover more continents (laurentide ice sheet) The center is really thick, so there will be flow from the center (dome) out in every direction. The bedrock under the continental ice sheets is pushed down and curves under the pressure and weight. If you push hard enough on the lithosphere, the mantle underneath will bend and flow. The mantle will start coming back in and pushing the lithosphere back up. Ice shelf: when the ice extends out of the continental ice sheet, over the beach with water under it. ~not good because the water is warming, so it will melt the ice. ~ice that is already floating on the water, so if it breaks off and floats away, sea level will.
