Agora is the greek word for marketplace (not a marketplace at the time) Dipylon means two gates (one of the entrances to the city) Rich burials and multiple people buried inside (families) The collapse of the mycenean period led to a poorer and less populated area. Culture changed^ and very little stayed the same. Stratified, ruler is equated with homeric hero, wealthy, pottery from the cemetery was attic pottery. In the 8th century a population explosion occurred (over 28 settlements showed up) Tombs that were already ancient at the time had evidence of ritual activity of offerings. Old people left offerings in their old establishments in order to elevate their status by showing connection with elderly. Athens was wealthy and had social stratification but no evidence of a single ruler. Jars with two handles are called amphora. Amphora with weapons have weapon wrapped around while jewelery amphora had side handles (men vs. women)
