For best results try to have level environments both at home and at school. Adjustment process includes feelings of: shock, denial, and disbelief, anger, guilt, depression, shame, lowered self-esteem, rejection of the child, and overprotectiveness, acceptance, adaptation, and appreciation. The resilience model (note everyone moves through this process differently): identification of disability, self-education (learn more on their own, reflection about self and family, advocacy and empowerment, appreciation and enlightenment, educate others.
