12a: eyes: describe the pathophysiology of glaucoma, 2 types: angle closure glaucoma and open angle glaucoma, angle closure glaucoma (10%) blocks canal of schlemm, pupillary block. Risk factors include eskimos, asians, family history, elderly, women. Drugs are used to manage prior to surgery: open angle glaucoma (90%) either increase in aqueous humor or decrease in drainage of aqueous humor, risk factors include elevated iop, elderly, family history, black, diabetes, hypertension, myopia, corticosteroids. More drainage: mitotics (indirect acting, ache inhibitors)- constrict pupil, open angle.
