Document Summary

Part of knowing when to eat is our memory of our last meal: tested with those who had amnesia who finished 3 rounds of food after just finishing to eat and had no memory of doing so. Preferences for sweet and salty = genetic and universal. But people given salty foods develop a likeness for salt, or people sickened by food develop aversion. Preferences for food are effected by culture = camel eating by. Bedouins is not tasty to na and europeans. Neophobia = dislike of unfamiliar things, especially animals for humans. Taste preferences are adaptive = spices for foods in hot climates inhibit bacteria growth. Pregnancy sickness and food aversions occur around 10th week when developing embryo is must vulnerable to toxins. Ex: people eat more when with others (social facilitation) Could explain why french are skinnier than americans bc of smaller portions. People eat more when more is presented to them.
