PSYC 327 Lecture Notes - Lecture 27: Eidetic Memory, Encephalitis, Free Recall
Document Summary
Infantile amnesia: nothing wrong with brain for either of them, most people don"t remember much of life before they are about 3. Not because babies don"t have good memory (ex: babies remember doctors who give shots very well). But it is hard for us to remember much of our life before about 3. Babies lives aren"t really exciting, and lives are full of routine. (wake up, breakfast, nap, play, nap, food, nap, etc) At 1 or two, don"t rely on semantic memory because we don"t have words yet. But when we acquire words, most are semantic. So you cant access earlier memories so easily. Source amnesia (misattribution: nothing wrong with brain for either of them, idea where we think we heard something from one place but we heard from a different place to point where we could create false memory. Ex: a has to write a lot of letters for people going on to higher education (50-100 per semester).
