Sexual preference can also be learned by one female looking at another female and wanting to engage with the same male. Male rats that were mated with a receptive female that was paired with an almond smell first ejaculated with a female with the same scent in the test trial. If he has a choice he will pick the female with that smell. Learning between the association of almond scent and ejaculation made the males change their preference. Young learn mating preferences from their interaction with adults. Male quills saw a blond female through a window, and then given a chance to mate with her and over the course of the experiment they were given more time near the blond female. Then the males could see brown female but where not given chance to mate with her so their interest decrease. Phase 3 indicated that the males were reconditioned to prefer blond females over brown female.
