Document Summary

Homeostasis: the tendency to maintain a balanced or constant internal state. Major principle of functions of your body. Effector molecules: the molecules in a cascade of neural or hormonal events which ultimately have the most profound effect on the organism. Cluster of hormones that are released from a system to control. If you block the activity you could reverse the effect. Stressor: a challenge which disrupts the normal balance or equilibrium of an organism. Stressors can be characterized on (at least) five domains. If it is a predictable event, you can have some control over the outcome. Subjective cognitive appraisal component: the individual reflects upon what may happen to occur the challenge. Emotional reaction (anger, laughter, sadness), physiological response, biological response. If you think about it from an evolutionary perspective, the stress response was to promote your survival; in stressful event you would have a whole body response to the event.
