Document Summary

Identity = a set of beliefs/worldviews that you choose to hold on to and internalize that make you similar to some people but different from others. How man sees himself, how man sees the world, how the world sees the man. Identity could be a problem when a group thinks that their identity is superior/inferior to others, or when it is imposed upon a person instead of a free choice. In the film, layers within each tribe (some people were pro schools, some anti), parental (too old to be fixed), kids in boarding school (not western, not native anymore), domineering western. This shows how identity comprises how the world sees someone too. In the film (aside from interviews) na are always addressed as their tribe whereas westerners are addressed by name. Kills the identity because they cannot kill the man. Helpful because teach english - if means were better and less oppressive, would be beneficial.
