Young straight males who could dawn the zoot suit. Women were laying at the feet & laying their heads on the shoulders of the main characters hereunless they were in the kitchen. She is standing with her hands on her hips, with robes open. A different kind of strength that she displays. Stories about these mexican-american women who are not finding their agency the same way men do, but find alternative forms of agency. One is driving a pickup truck & talking like a man & not ashamed of this at all. Opens with the awful grandma who is dropping pesos in box before the altar. See church as another clamped down institution. You can feel her agency slipping away.
