Just like vargas does, fuentes is going to create his own narrative. Fuentes can only go based off of archival footage. Begins with silenced fragmented history & tries to put it all together. Stylized syntax is the atmosphere of the older national geographic. Wanted to explore history in a personal way--found ethnographic film presented a stylized & codified syntax that preempted content. More often than not, the assumption is that of a tabula rasa recorder" of cultural facts. " (83) Metonymy & mimesis are essential ideas behind the notion of in situ. The art of mimesis, whether in the form of period rooms, ethnographic villages, recreated environments, reenacted rituals, or photo murals, places objects (or replicas of them) in situ .
