There is a 1 in 3 chance of a m6. 7 or larger earthquake on the hayward. Fault or rodgers creek fault in the next 30 years. This means that these two faults are the ones most likely to produce a large, damaging earthquake in the sf bay region in our lifetimes. 12 large earthquakes have occurred on the hayward fault over the past 1900 years. The most recent one was in 1868 , nearly 150 years ago.
