Che guevara and the romance of revolution. Motorcycle diaries is in many ways a take on the classic "road trip" genre of films, where the main protagonists take both a physical and an emotional/spiritual/reflective journey. Point to 2-3 moments in the films when we see clear examples of the kind of emotional, intellectual and/or political awakenings that che and alberto experience on their trip. Beyond simply describing those awakenings, contextualize them within the historical and sociopolitical dynamics of that time and place. Upon seeing this film and learning for the first time of che guevara"s early life, many have remarked surprised of his origins as an educated medical student from an upper class argentinian family. Consider what preconceived and constructed notions often exist when we receive mainstream histories and figures of radical resistance and revolutionary struggles, and what might compel such narratives. How they internalized their privilege when talking to the traveling migrants.
