Establishes the location and the environment of carnegie school. Accepts that gabey is being genuine right away. Fake- not as talented as she thinks/claims, and worse than ivy. She teaches wrong technique, indicating she doesn"t really know anything. Hot stuff version in gabey"s comin" versus his genuine lovesick version. Matches ivy"s dreaming, her hardworking, her naivety, and her earnestness. Uses scientific language- she"s educated, and currently in an intellectual relationship . She really wants sex, something primal and not intellectual. Doesn"t really believe in the honor system. Waiting for claire to grow out of her man-crazed phase-- he"s patient. He is a judge-- should seek the truth but doesn"t in his own life. Cares about politics and believes in the honor system.
