TDR 1120 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Aniline, Polyurethane, Pigment
Document Summary
Pigment- gives the color, is a dry component. Binder- makes the paint stick together and stick to a surface. Casein- soy or vegetable based with a milk protein binder. Con: the paint can spoil, so it may not have a long storage life. Latex- vinyl plastic binder that comes from rubber, giving it a tint (because the rubber is white), water based. Cons: cannot be watered down to make a glaze. Pros: clear binder means no added tints or shades. Examples: spray paint, roscolene (used to paint stained glass looks) Paint itself is strong, and does not wash off easily. Con: has to be cleaned with solvent chemicals. Cons: must wear a respirator when using because it is toxic when wet, but it is safe once it dries. Fundamentals of production design lecture 4 notes continued. Top coat has 4 types: shellac- made from bugs.
