EESC 2211 Lecture 2: Notes Chapter 4: Human Population
Document Summary
Rate of population growth in recent times is growing exponentially. Densest populations in china and india and europe and eastern u. s. Coastal sites are more dense, places that have less resources (water, ag, food) are barren. Climate affects what resources are available, and coastlines are more temperate climate: less extremes. Ocean absorbs heat and takes a lot longer to heat up. Climate governs resources and therefore the population capacity. The desert has little people in it. Europe is exception because they have warmer ocean currents, bringing warmer weather. Oceanic circulation is dictating where people are living. Table with different facts about the population. Crude death rate is higher in developed countries than developing countries because of the age structure of the population: more older people. Infant mortality is still high in developing countries. Infant mortality rate and birth rate are related: if high, then higher birth rate.
