Identification and ideology: doing ideological work , makes certain cultural norms and values feel natural, recreates/reinforces power relations, gender, race, sexuality, class, etc. Ideology: sets of social values, ideas, and feelings by which people collectively make sense of the world: a world view that is naturalized; a taken for granted, common sense view about how the world works. Ideological work of media texts: reaffirm, reproduce, and sometimes challenge dominant ideology. Telling stories, within ideologies: story: sequence of events, in chronological order, plot: series of events related causally, narrative: method and means of constructing events into a plot; how the events are told. All narrative is a movement between two equilibriums. : narrative structure diagram, exposition introduced to story, where it"s taking place, characters, initial equilibrium, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution. Logic of narrative = communicate meaning and/or message. How: core problematic: issue of social importance structured as a dramatic conflict.
