Usually babies acively explore the physical world and their knowledge of the world via cause and efect is what grows. Development is an inherently acive and construcive process. Children are moivated to invesigate and explore the world around them and to solve problems. As they explore, children atempt to make sense of the world in terms of their exising knowledge. They for new knowledge when they experience their exising knowledge tot be insuicient. Interacion with the physical world is a criical part of this process. Development is not simply a mater of improvements or advancements in exising abiliies. Behaviorism we are looking at increase or decrease of the frequency or intensity of the behavior.
