PR 605 Lecture 82: Critical incidents
Document Summary
Critical incidents focus the attention of the evaluator on the difference between what is means to effectively execute a job and ineffectively execute a job. The appraiser describes what the employee did that was effective or ineffective in a particular situation. When this happens, they only cite certain and specific behaviors. A list of these critical incidents gives a rich set of examples to show how the desirable behaviors of employees may call for improvement. One of the oldest and most popular methods to evaluate is using the graphic ratings scale. The evaluator goes through a set of performance factors, like: The scales might be specific and rate things on a scale of five points, where job knowledge could be a 1 to 5. 1 would represent poorly informed about work duties, while 5 could be complete mastery of all job phases.
