Nature via nurture genetic predispositions can drive us to select and/or create particular environments. Clinical jane: tv > real life, quick fixes. Alcohol, candy: friends, problems at work. Non-clinical jane: finds a partner who is not overly disturbed by her worries, exercise vs. quick fixes, finds a job that allows her to express her uncanny ability to spot potential problems, gonna buy me a dog . How do children learn, think, reason and communicate: does development occur in stages or is it continuous, are cognitive skills domain-general or domain-specific, do children learn from psychical or social interactions. Piaget and vygotsky each came up with their own theories. Constructivist theory children construct an understanding of their world based on observations of the effects of their behavior. Stage theorist: radical reorganizations at specific developmental points. Equilibration: balance between experience and thoughts about the world. Assimilation: absorbing new information into current knowledge. Accommodation: altering a belief to make to compatible with experience.
