Obviously, it"s impossible to monitor all interactions between students and adults every day. That"s why it"s essential for all educators to be aware of the warning signs of sexual misconduct. Both abusers and victims exhibit tell-tale signs that are odd or out of the ordinary. Not all are indicators that something is going on, but being alert is the first step to stopping predators. Red flag behaviors by adults that may indicate a serious problem. Almost all abuse takes place in secret or behind closed doors. That"s one good reason educators should never spend time alone with students. Policies and procedures are there to help keep students safe, making it difficult for predators to groom and abuse victims or take advantage of situations involving children or teens. Any physical contact should be open and not secretive, and should be conducted in response to the child"s needs, not those of thee adult.
