JOUR 601 Lecture Notes - Lecture 59: Social Reproduction, Tabloid Journalism
Document Summary
However, understanding how, how much, and why is more dependent on how media roles and media ritual relationships are conceptualized to the structure of an institution. Two different approaches define a theoretical range for understanding the external boundaries and internal media ritual processes. The first is more of a traditional perspective that is centered around media structure. The second advocate against a central media role for a more de-centralized and populist form of the media. The normative concept of the media ritual is defined by the media"s shifting positions within the context of events and around the government structure. Media structure relationships deal with stability and change of routines for journalists. This is a dominant and interpretive media ritual concept that needs a fluid, working context within how reporters and their sources interact to create news. This depends on the media working with political and social institutions. The paradigm of ritual expresses social solidarity and interprets sites of social reproduction.
