While this has changed, there has still been a level of change over the last 10 years. People of color in newsrooms is actually down from 14% to 13%. This lack of change over time comes from media-wide apathy. Part of the reason for this is lack of resources, especially with limited financial gains in the industry. Here are ways to hire a diverse staff: acknowledge there is a problem in the newsroom. Diversity is the ability to show and retain all of the communities that you cover as a journalist. You have to make sure the people you are reporting for understand the language you are speaking, not only on paper, but verbally as well.
