JOUR 625 Lecture Notes - Lecture 16: Industrial Revolution, Prosthesis
Document Summary
There is a large claim that we are entering a second machine age where instead of overcoming the limitations of our muscles, we are overcoming the limitations of our individual minds. Just over half a century ago, robots started exploring the world. These were built in 1948 as the first autonomous robots. Today, their successes are a lot more sophisticated and have moved into the real world. Over the years, there hasn"t been one single breakthrough, instead, different technologies have improved dramatically, sensors, machine learning, computer scanning, etc. There have been advances in robotics and a sweet spot created for a robot revolution. There is no one robotic future, something the result could show is extinction of the human population with robots taking over jobs. The other potential future could be a cybernetic meadow where we live free from labor and watched over by machines boosting productivity, our health, and overall wellbeing.
