JOUR 625 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Copyright Infringement, Flea Market

5 views3 pages

Document Summary

Let"s say you own something and you have your own copyright on it. Once you own these copyrights, you are able to privately sue people for infringement. If you want to sue people you have to have your copyright registered. You don"t have to register to own the rights because you immediately own them when you create the product, but you do have to register it to sue someone else for using your product or thing. It costs money to own a copyright on your product and have the registration. However, once you actually obtain that registration, you have the right to go to court and sue someone else for infringing on your copyright. In most cases, it"s hard to prove someone copied you because people will most likely lie to you about doing it. Rarely will you ever come across a situation where the person who copied actually admits they did it.
