MGT 500 Lecture Notes - Lecture 64: Job Satisfaction, Absenteeism
Document Summary
Your life"s attitudes and experiences go into how your approach your job. There is a decrease in the satisfaction for your life when people are unemployed. For most people, work is important to their life. This means our happiness overall depends on how happy we are at work and how satisfied we are. One theoretical model is more helpful for understanding dissatisfaction"s consequences. Four responses to job dissatisfaction that differ along two dimensions are: constructive/destructive, active/passive. The exit response is something that deals with behavior toward leaving and organization. This includes resigning from your job and looking for new positions. To measure these effects, researchers have studied people"s terminations and collective turnover. Collective turnover is the total amount of loss to the organization of: employee knowledge, skills, abilities, other characteristics, voice. The voice response deals with constructively and actively trying to improve conditions, including: suggesting improvements, discussions with superiors about problems, undertaking union activity, loyalty.
