Intoxication: a state in which a person lacks the normal use of mental or physical faculties because of use of alcohol or drugs, or a combination of substances into the body. Alcohol abuse or addiction occurs when someone"s pattern of drinking has negative consequences that harm emotional and physical health, interpersonal relationships, or ability to work. When someone is often intoxicated, he tends to loose control of aspects of his life. When someone abuses alcohol, he can choose to cut back or quit with or without help. He may try a number of approaches of help including medications, counseling, and self-help groups. A form of alcohol abuse referring to someone drinking five to six standard alcohol beverages in one drinking session. One social consequence of alcohol consumption is alcohol related birth defects or fetal alcohol. Women who drink heavily while pregnant can give birth to babies with fas.
