Wealthy women had slaves that went out to do the errands-she stayed home. Poor women did help in the shops and do their own shopping. Education was very important- especially for elite men. Polytheistic- many gods/goddesses- most gods were from greece. Being heroic then dying could have been made a god. Core belief- make the gods happy-no bible to tell you how you behave. Olympian gods- big gods- recognized through all of greece. Oracle- way for the gods to speak to people. Olympic games- (776 bce)- religious festival- athletic competition in honor of the gods. Winning brought glory to your city-state, made the gods happy- they perform nude. Some games for women and there were other sporting events. Divination- reading the flight patterns of birds- read dreams- animal guts. Delphi- the oracle here was to speak to apollo. Pythia- communicates to the god- the priests interpret what she says.
