Toga was a symbol of citizenship, if you were doing something special you would wear this. During his lifetime, the roman republic ends, and the roman empire rises. Roads that were built were used heavily for transportation about 53,000 miles. Military built these roads, then slaves were used to maintain them . 250,000 to 300,000 men a way to spread the values of rome to the entire empire. Always brought cats with them to keep the mice away. Soldiers were well-trained, intelligent, full time job soldier. Being professional means you get paid to do your job, and you have professional equipment! Romans were paid relatively well, they also had pensions for the soldiers. After the soldiers retired, you had options of whether you wanted to have a farm, inn/tavern, etc.
