Young sober riders speak to horses and pet them before the races. Light comes in between cracks in the boards. Door is locked and no one ever comes. Child promises to be good and wants let out -- knows his mother"s voice. Sits forever -- eats half a bowl of corn meal a day. Their happy lives depend of this child"s misery. Sometimes children will go to see him and sometimes adults. Terms are strict and absolute; cannot even speak kind words. People are sad and angry but realize that nothing good would come out of helping. At times one of the children go to see it and does not wee/rage/go home. They walk straight out of the cities gates.
