COMM 220 Lecture Notes - Lecture 99: Deductive Reasoning, Categorical Imperative, Tabula Rasa
Document Summary
Critical thinking: the careful and deliberative effort to make a decision based upon thoughtful evaluation of all available information. Critical thinking is a process with beginning, middle, and end. We willingly and knowingly engage in critical thinking. To think critically we must come to a conclusion. This is how we differentiate from regular thinking- critical thinking involves decision-making. We use everything we have available to us. When we exclude information then critical thinking ends. The only person who knows if you thought critically about something is you. When we use critical thought there are no guarantees that you have come to the right conclusion. Debate: the process of inquiry and advocacy; seeking of reasoned judgment on a proposition. Debate may be used by an individual or group seeking to reach a decision or convince an audience to reach a decision. Before we construct arguments to present there is a process of inquiry, develop our arguments.
