Did not publish developing idea of natural selection. May be in poor health or worrying about reaction to views, or adding more facts. Took 20 years to publish after receiving fateful letter in 1856. Presented a theory for how traits change in nature nearly identical to darwin"s. Published theory of natural selection by darwin and wallace. Evolution is gradual change due to 3 natural facts. Variation- all offspring are slightly different to parents and siblings. Selection- not all offspring survive, if so, have traits favoring environment. Organisms with most adaptive traits for given environment, will survive and reproduce.
