Cultures have different adaptations to the changing environments. Enculturation: process of learning or acquiring the culture of a group one is born into. Cultural knowledge: the attitudes and ideas about culture and behavior stored in a person"s mind as a result of enculturation. 5 different elements of cultural knowledge: use of symbols: things with meaning arbitrarily assigned to them. Ideal behavior: ideal behavior is in one"s head, but the behavior acted in real life is different. Cultural determinism: people blindly adhere to cultural knowledge. Over time, attitudes can change within a culture. Deviance transform into a norms as norms transforms into deviance. Ex: teachers spanking children in school was a norm.
