People learn depending on the groups they associate with. It has to do with getting costs and rewards with an appropriate behavior. Ex: the likelihood of shoplifting again when they weren"t caught the first. Control theories: time, is much higher than if they were caught. Inner modifying to internalize certain values that keep us from becoming deviant. Parents, cops giving us a tickets - that keep you from being deviant. Inner controls socialized by types of social bonds: How committed are people to their values and others who follow social norms. A weak bond means they will probably become deviant at some point. Ex: what if mom found out i shoplifted, that would crush her. Being involved with family and school and stay active in our lives.
