Document Summary

Frequency hz cycles per second. Developed scales for physics and psychological scale. Variable tone adjust the tone until it sounds twice as loud. Magnitude estimation use a reference tone of 1000 hz at 40 db. Variable tone adjust the frequency until it sounds like twice the pitch. Between ~1000 - 3000 hz linear relationship. Outside of this range that relationship falls apart. Absolute threshold in db as a function of frequency. ~2,000 hz, absolute threshold is at ~0 db. ~20 hz, absolute threshold is at ~80 db. ~20,000 hz, absolute threshold is at ~20 db. How loud a tone is will depend on the frequency you can not predict loudness from just sound intensity / loudness is not independent from frequency. Take a reference tone, 1000 hz at 40 db, and play it. Adjust amplitude of other frequencies to be of equal loudness as the reference tone.
