The knapp commission was established to look into the corruption in the. Nyc police department: they were assigned three tasks: Determine the extent and nature of police corruption within. Examine the existing procedures for dealing with corruption within the police agency. Most cities and counties have laws or ordinances that state that city/county employee (i. e. cops) cannot accept gratuities. As a result, if a policeman accepts a gratuity, they typically commit a misdemeanor. Pad"s could come from legal businesses that were doing something shady on the side. Nut: each individual police officer"s cut of all of the pad"s. Score: a one-time money collection based upon investigative work: not an on-going payment, just a one-time thing, typically associated with narcotics.
