The social work profession is a critical practice in society. As mentioned in the first lecture note, the social work profession facilitates social change and development, social cohesion, and the empowerment and liberation of people (2015). This is a fundamental definition of the social work profession, as it promotes social change and social justice in society. Social work profession is apprehended with helping people, families, and groups from different walks of life in society, to develop their skills and ability so as to use their personal resources and community resources to solve their problems. As a racialized woman, i know that it is not very easy to navigate a new environment or country. There are many racialized people, families, and groups that have experienced oppression in society simply because they do not have the necessary help and resources from society.
