1947, sasktchewan was first province to introduce universal public hospital insurance- covered drugs administered in hospital. 1957, federal government passed hospital instance & diagnostic service act. Shared cost with provincial & federal, province government met certain conditions. Within 4 years all provinces residents had access to hospital services at no charge. 1966, medical care act, offered to share pt costs for physician services. All canadians should obtain healthcare irrespective of their ability to pay. By 1972, all pt has universal public insurance for physician services. 1984, canada health act, had 5 principles public administration, accessible, comprehensive, universal and portable. Universal health care of canada doesn"t provide coverage for prescription drugs. There are govern run insurance programs that are designed to provide drug coverage for vulnerable groups including seniors, on social assistance. There"s private drug benefit plans offered by employees. Drug plans provided by federal or pt governments. Provided drugs to seniors, children, low income.
