Groups are in the eye of the beholder. Two or more individuals who are connected to one another by and within social relationships. If there is not a connection someow between the, then they are not a group, there has to be something that brings them in together. They must be connected through some social relationship. Definitions of groups vary, but they do have common characteristics (page 4) Size: dyads and triads to large collectives (this class, mobs, audiences) Connected: members are linked, networked (e. g. , a task at work) - social, interpersonal connection with someone (e. g. , family) There are diff connections we have with other people and other networks we have with other people. Connections that are social, influential and purposeful - they really bring us in together. Billions of groups in the world most groups tend to be relatively small ( ranging from 2 to 7 members) - we generally function in small groups.
