Lots of research in this area, even until today. Evokes a lot of strong reactions within people both in and out of academia. Also have an intense class of paradigms here: early research and synthesis. Maccoby & jackin (1972) the psychology of sex differences. Summarized all the literature on this topic in the 70"s and found that: females have greater verbal abilities and perceptual-motor speeds, males have an advantage on spatial tests. Cognitive sex differences: a female superiority on language tests and tests of perceptual ability and a male advantage on tests of spatial problem solving ability: caveats regarding measures in research: pure abilities, decontextualized. Penalized for wrong answers: examples of female biased tests & male biased tests. Female biased tests: apparently gender gap for verbal abilities has narrowed in recent years. Manual sequencing from luria neuropsyc battery, repeated hand motions check how many times you can repeat motion in 30 second timeframe: females faster at this.
