Majority of gd cases are diagnosed as unspecified gender dysphoria in adults. Stronger emphasis on gender incongruence rather than cross gender identification. Dsm-v criteria for gd (adults: marked incongruence between one"s expressed gender and assigned gender, 6 months duration and 2 of the following: i. ii. iii. iv. v. vi. Incongruence between expressed gender and primary and secondary sex characteristics. Strong desire to be rid of sex characteristics due to incongruence. Strong desire for primary and secondary sex characteristics of other gender. Strong desire to be of the other gender. Strong desire to be treated as the other gender. Strong conviction that one has typical feelings and reactions of other gender. Usually recognize by parents when the child is 2-4 years old.
