Criticisms: - more theoretical level: concept cognitive set or schema not well defined, cognitive explanations of psychopathology do not explain much. Determining a patient"s set of symptoms meets the criteria for a particular psychological disorder (as set forth in the dsm-v) I can communicate a lot of information quickly if there is a diagnosis. The systematic evaluation and measurement of psychological, biological and social factors in an individual presenting with a possible psychological disorder. Techniques developed: to determine cognitive, emotional, personality and behavioural factors in psychopathological functioning. Assessment techniques: clinical interview - all mental health professionals, physical examination - medical: psychiatrist/ neurologist, behavioural assessment - clinical- developmental or behavioral psychologist, occupational therapy (ot)*, psychological testing, neuroimaging/psychophysiological assessment - psychiatrist, neurologist. Questions are set out in a prescribed fashion for the interviewer. Branching interview = client"s response to 1 question determines the next question that is asked.
