Applied research: direct link to the real world. Lab: controlled, not as realistic as field experiments. Field: more realistic, uncontrolled, observed in nature. Sensation is input of the sense in the system, and perception is mental process of senses. In sensation, the vestibulo-ocular reflex (detect motion) is extremely fast (~5-6ms). In response to motion, we are detecting in very fast time.
