Mental philosophy: the study of the elements and processes of the mind, and how they influence action. Moral philosophy: branch of philosophy that dealt with ethics and conduct. Based on scottish common sense realism: god has given us basic faculties like understanding, will, emotions and mind in use. All other knowledges comes through our senses, which give us common sense info about the real world. By late 19th century: attempts to merge this with darwinian approach, emphasis on function. Thomas upham one of first educated in this way, 1827 wrote a book: topics that new psychology started to use, very functional but reserving mind for god. James mccosh thought evolution compatible with god, if you see evo as a product of god.
