Information is possessed differently depending on wether we focus on it. Dichotic listening task- they are asked to focus on only one side from the headphone, they are not so good with the other side. Only some information gets through and the rest is ignored. Limits to how much information a person can attend to any time. Filter is based on physical aspects of the information such as how loud, where it is coming from etc. According this model- individual should not be able to process any meaning of that. Even if a message is not attended to, the information it contains is still available. You can change how much attention you give to any stream of information. Pros- it gives you the space to shift within information. You will still process the information you are not paying your full attention to. And as soon as something interests you, you will change your attention to that piece of information.
