Document Summary

Some psychologists say motivation has to do with desire (passion, wants, needs) When these are sufficiently intense we are motivated to act. Homeostasis = equilibrium state of balance, content, internal harmony. Disequilibrium state of being motivated by desire, passion, wants, needs = arousal. We want to correct disequilibrium to return to equilibrium. When two motivations are not in harmony we have conflict we don"t act on either aspect of the conflict. If disequilibrium is sufficiently strong we are motivated to restore equilibrium. We are always in a state of disequilibrium because we have needs & wants. Elusive = we can never achieve a status of equilibrium. Stress produces disequilibrium we try to reduce stress, return to a stress free state of equilibrium. Man will risk his biological life to satisfy his non-biological desire hegel. Individuals will risk their life for something that isn"t absolutely essential to life.
