We need an objective observer when doing research on the brain because humans are biased to their own brains, not appraising the complexity and functioning of our own mind. Introspection is used to generate hypothesis about the mind, but the scienti c enquiry is the best approach. Rt takes 1/10th sec longer than a simple rt task) Wundt: structuralistic appraoch- experience is determined by combining elements of experience called sensations, analytic introspection method- subjects trained to describe experiences and thought processes in response to stimuli. Ebbinghaus: read list of syllables aloud many times to determine number of repetitions necessary to repeat list without errors to study his own memory in an objective manner, short intervals = fewer repetitions to relearn. : savings = original time to learn the list - time to relearn the list after a delay: savings curve shows savings as a function of retention interval.
